Another One Bites The Dust

I've been a bit under the weather lately. As in going to bed before my kids on some nights, then still napping with them in the afternoons, and pretty much craving my bed at all points in between.

It was while I was trying to get one of those naps in today that Thomas entered my bedroom looking a tad bit smug.

"Um, Mommy... I lost another tooth! I just reached up and wiggled it and it fell right out! What should I do with it?"

Y'all, I tried to be perky. But I was pulled out of drooling good sleep. And my head was pounding. And the allergy medication was taking it's toll.

"Huh?"

"I lost a tooth! See??" he whisper shrieked, then stuck his tongue through the new gap.

"Ohh, good buddy! Put it dare on da dight stand, mgay?"

"Okay. Will the Tooth Fairy come tonight?" came his hopeful question.

"Hmm? Yeah, buddy, she will. I love you."

He set the tooth down on my night stand and fairly pranced out. I giggled for a fraction of a nano-second and konked back out.

When I woke up, he asked for his tooth. He claimed he needed to clean it up for the Tooth Fairy. Ten minutes later he appeared with a snaggle tooth grin and a small bottle filled with water.

"See? It's soaking."

He held up the bottle and, sure enough, there was a small tooth in the bottom of the container.

He showed Joshua when he got home, and we exchanged one of those parental looks over Thomas' head that clearly said 'what-the-heck?'

This evening, as we settled in, Thomas asked to write a note to the tooth fairy.

"Son, how do you know the tooth fairy can read?" inquired Josh.

Sarah Grace piped up with her mad observation skillz, "Yes she can. She has eyes."

When we got it straightened out that a fairy in possession of eyes doesn't mean the fairy in question can read, the conversation boiled down to what was it a tooth fairy gave in exchange for old teeth. Candy? Tooth-brushes? Money?

Tomorrow will tell...

So what does the Tooth Fairy leave when she visits your house??

Thomas is 6!

This guy turned six yesterday! He woke up this morning and asked me this...

"Mom, now that I'm six, I am bigger. What size clothes do I wear now?"

Not Mommy, Mom! Like he's a teenager.

I told him I thought he could get by in the clothes that he had in his drawers for the rest of the summer, but I would be shopping soon for his winter clothes and I might need to buy them a size larger.

"Oh, good. I don't want to wear five year old sizes anymore. I'm a real big boy now and I need to wear a bigger number."

Yeah, those sevens and eights that I'll be buying for winter are a far cry from the newborn onsies I was ooh-ing and aah-ing over six years ago. But what a fun time we've had! And so much more to come!

We love you, Big Boy!

Summer Rain

It rained here today. That good, warm, summer rain that begs to be played in. The kind of rain that memories are made of.

When the worst of the downpour was over, the kids took to the streets. They sloshed and splashed and shrieked and ran and laid down and romped and thoroughly enjoyed the rainfall and the water rushing around.

These are the moments that make everyday afternoons magical.

A Pinkalicious Birthday!

We did it! We pulled off the long awaited Pinkalicious Birthday Bash, and had one verrrrrrry happy little Pinkalicious Princess!

Y'all! I had so much fun putting this together with Sarah Grace. We talked about some of the things she wanted, and after some web surfing, I came up with a few items to make is a bit of a surprise for her.

It was worth every minute of energy I put into it when she was shocked speechless upon seeing the party room for the first time!

It was pretty awesome...if I do say so myself.

The princesses came out in full force. Tulle, wands, crowns, and even a few royal fits were the order of the day.

As each princess arrived, she made her way to the living room to choose her royal robes and be fitted with her royal crown. Then they all daintily barreled upstairs to jump on beds and trade clothes around! It was dress up on quite the grand scale!

When the princesses declared to be ready for tea, we sat them all down and sugared them up! Pink marshmallows, pink gummy fruit, pink jelly beans, pink filled oreos, pink sugar wafers, strawberries, pink chocolate dipped pretzels, pink strawberry lemonade, pink malted milk balls, pink iced cupcakes, and ham and cheese sandwich spirals. Ham is the official pink meat of a Pinkalicious Party, you know.

Once there little bellies were filled, they gathered round to hear the story of Pinkalicious.

After the story, Sarah Grace could stand it no longer. Presents must be opened! I would share photos of this, but it's just a bunch of little crowned heads gathered around a chair, all vieing to be the first to touch the most recently opened gift!

Finally, we shooed everyone outside for a group photo of our Pinkaliciousness.

And there you have it! All but the Littlest Princess, who was way over-stimulated and begging for a nap.

And if there happened to be a pea in one of my princesses' beds, I never heard a word about it! It was a very Peaceful Princess rest at our house that day.

Sarah Grace - 5 Years!

Five years of having the blessing of watching our Sarah Grace have flown by. The little bitty pink sleepers that I thought she would never grow into have been passed down to, and outgrown by, her little sisters. The serious baby that regarded us so solemnly has blossomed into a giggly, chatty, pink-loving, sweet little girl. And yet...it's only the beginning! Happy Birthday, Princess! We love you so much!!!

Hello, August!

It is positively boiling outside. And it's night time! You would think that with this kind of heat, we would have the good sense to sit back and watch movies and be as still as humanly possible.

Where's the fun in that???

It is one of the busiest weeks on the calendar for us. Summer activities are wrapping up and Fall activities are just beginning. Although it's hard to think of anything related to Fall when we're under an Excessive Heat Warning. (Did I mention anything about the heat yet?)

Still though, there is the last swim day for the young families in our Sunday School class. The last free movie at the local cinema's summer series The last night of our Summer Bible Studies at church.

Then there is the first soccer practices of the year. Separate nights, naturally, for Thomas and Sarah Grace. There is prepping for the first full blown week of school (you know, wherein we actually do the full gamut of our curriculum rather than just three R's?)

Oh, and there is a sweetie pie little girl in our house who turns five this week! And her Pinkalicious Party planned for the weekend, when our home will be invaded by fifteen some odd little girls gussied up in pink tulle and ribbons. And the planning that goes into that.

And three doctors appointments on the book for the week. Clearly I was not listening to the nurses when they scheduled these appointments or I would have never agreed to this insanity.

And I finally committed to colors for the walls of the house and foolishly chose to apply them this week. Because my plate begs for more sides and more sides and more sides. There is no such thing as too full.

Y'all, just think of us this week, would ya? Toss up a prayer or forty if you don't mind? It's daunting. Verrrrry daunting.
